With the tutorial from my friend Kim Wheeler, I truly believed that I could be one of those "crafty" people. Her week two project was to make your own ornaments. So with coupons in tow I set off to Michaels for my supplies (of course forgetting my mentors specific list of items you need on hand for a successful project) that should have been clue #1. Well, having no list I had to renegade through the store for what in my mind I needed to get a homemade ornament on the tree. After walking around aimlessly in all the wrong aisles and being constantly interrupted by cranky kids for over an hour my husbands patience wore very thin and it was time to go. So I crossed my fingers and threw stuff in the basket and went to the register where all my coupons were expired ( clue #2). I started my project in a surprisingly quite kitchen but that soon changed. My kids have the inate ability to hear the sounds of scissors cutting paper and crawl out of the woodwork to lend a "helping" and I use that term loosely hand. All I can say is this after 2 hours of cutting paper, rolling ribbon and tieing bows, the project was a complete disaster but it was completed none the less. If you want to see what the project should look like check out the talented Kim Wheeler at kimwheeler.blogspot.com for her craft creations. While I am proud of myself for completing only one ornament and getting it on the tree. I had more fun in the help I received from my kids. My three year old cut the paper as crooked as can be but insisted every piece was perfect ( I need to work on her motor skills) and what I did not notice is that every time I dropped a precisely rolled piece of ribbon in the ornament, my two year olds fingers were every so perfectly sized to pull the ribbon out and shove her own rolled version in. All in all I have the ornament on my tree and the memories and laughs that will last forever. Just call me Martha. I cant wait to see the next project! Here is a picture of the ornament
